Code Delta is an initiative of Thinkfix – a Port Harcourt-based Social Enterprise – designed to demystify coding in the Niger Delta. Code Delta seeks to challenge and empower young minds in the region to embrace the power and possibilities of coding.
As Internet of Things (IoT) advances, so will the need for apps to integrate them. As the need to integrate the unbanked into the financial system, so will the need for apps in Fintech (Financial Technology). In fact as technology unfolds, the opportunities for coding will greatly increase. And beyond its physical applications, coding equips the coder with a logically systemic mindset – a fundamental requisite for 21st century challenges.
If Africa is to participate in the technology of the future, its youth must learn how to code. If Africa is to maximize opportunities in developed economies (especially those with an aging population), its youth must learn to code. Just like the Philippines, Africa can be a net exporter of a highly-skilled workforce through coding.
However, coding isn't just a new language in all facets the world is speaking today; it is the language of the future. And the time has come when we must no longer be known by our oil wells or violence but by our creative capacities.

You will agree that most of the jobs in existence today were remotely contemplated fifteen years ago. Things like the Internet and its myriad of global opportunities appeared out of nothing but the minds of creative mortals and have exploded upon us, creating millions of jobs! As the future unfolds, more and more of such creative opportunities will unfold and if we must not be left behind, we must embrace the language of that unfolding future – coding. You should know that most of what is responsible for your basic comforts (mobile phones, social media, email, etc), derives from coding. However, for those who desire employment, coding provides desirable employees. For would-be entrepreneurs, it is a quick path to learn how to create something out of nothing; to give life to ideas; to create miraculous solutions.
